Alachua County, FL – Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-75/State Rd 222 Causes Injuries
Alachua County, FL (July 4, 2024) – A multi-vehicle accident occurred at around 10:50 AM on Thursday, the Fourth of July, on I-75 near the 390-mile marker at State Road 222 (Northwest 39th Avenue). The crash resulted in the prompt deployment of emergency medical services. According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, a southbound Honda Pilot SUV experienced a tire malfunction, causing the driver to lose control. The SUV veered into the path of a semitractor-trailer, prompting the truck driver to swerve in an attempt to avoid a collision. Unfortunately, the truck veered off the right shoulder and crashed into several trees. The impact trapped the truck driver inside the vehicle, necessitating the arrival of emergency responders. A Shands Life Flight helicopter was dispatched to the scene and landed directly on I-75, requiring a complete road closure for an extended period to facilitate the rescue operation. The SUV driver, a 26-year-old man from Doraville, Georgia, was unharmed. The truck driver, a 39-year-old man from Hyattsville, Maryland, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. Authorities have not released the names of those involved in the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol is conducting an ongoing investigation and urges anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
