Arenac Co., MI – Firefighter Critically Hurt in Crash on I-75 at Exit 202
Arenac County, MI (January 11, 2025) – A Sterling-area firefighter is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while responding to multiple incidents on I-75 Saturday morning, January 11. According to Sterling Area Fire Chief Jason Rice, the firefighter was working at the scene on the southbound lanes I-75 between Exit 202 and Exit 195 when the accident occurred. The vehicle, reportedly traveling too fast for the icy conditions, struck the firefighter and pinned them between the car and a fire truck.
Emergency crews rushed to stabilize the injured firefighter before they were transported to a nearby medical facility for further treatment. Their identity is currently being withheld pending notification of family members. The Michigan State Police are actively investigating the incident to determine contributing factors, including weather conditions and driver negligence.
