Atlanta, GA – Fatal Wrong-Way Collision on I-75 S, Leaving One Dead and Seven Injured
Atlanta, GA (October 15, 2023) – On Sunday morning, October 15th, at around 5:20 a.m., a tragic wrong-way collision on I-75 South resulted in one fatality and seven injuries, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The incident occurred when 23-year-old Alyssa Johnson drove north in the southbound lanes, causing a catastrophic collision involving multiple vehicles. Johnson’s car collided head-on with a GMC Yukon, triggering a chain reaction that also involved a third car and two large tractor-trailers. Sadly, Johnson’s vehicle caught fire, and she lost her life at the scene.
The seven people in the GMC Yukon, while lucky to survive, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were swiftly taken to the hospital by dedicated first responders from the Stockbridge Police Department.
The accident had a significant impact, leading to the full closure of lanes up to Hudson Bridge Road for an extended period. This disruption affected traffic and commuters in the area.
Authorities are conducting investigations to determine the exact sequence of events.
