The deadly crash occurred on May 13 at approximately 6:00 a.m. and began when a northbound tractor-trailer collided with a Hyundai Sonata. The impact caused the tractor-trailer to lose control and cross the median into the southbound lanes, striking two additional tractor-trailers and two passenger vehicles. One of the vehicles involved, a Ford Ranger, erupted into flames following the impact.

Their identities have not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Due to the severity of the wreckage, all southbound lanes of Interstate 75 were shut down for several hours as firefighters, paramedics, and investigators worked through the aftermath. By 11:00 a.m., two southbound lanes had reopened, with a full reopening expected by 1:00 p.m.
