Hamilton Co, TN – One Hurt in I‑75 NB Ramp Crash to I‑24
Hamilton Co, TN (April 23, 2025) – An injury car crash occurred Wednesday morning on the northbound I‑75 off‑ramp to I‑24 at Exit 2 in East Ridge, causing traffic delays as crews responded to the scene. The crash was reported at approximately 9:45 a.m. by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), confirming that the off‑ramp’s left lane was blocked due to the collision.
According to preliminary information from East Ridge Police and TDOT traffic monitors, a black hatchback and a silver SUV were both merging toward the split when the SUV made a sudden lane shift, clipping the hatchback and sending it into the concrete barrier along the ramp. The hatchback’s driver, a 36‑year‑old Chattanooga woman, sustained a fractured wrist, facial contusions, and back pain. She was extricated by East Ridge Fire Department personnel and transported by HCEMS to Erlanger Medical Center in non‑life‑threatening condition. The SUV’s driver, a 51‑year‑old man from Ringgold, Georgia, was treated at the scene for minor neck strain and released.
Officers temporarily closed the left side of the ramp for nearly an hour while crash investigators assessed the scene and tow trucks cleared the damaged vehicles. The ramp was reopened by 10:50 a.m., though congestion persisted on I‑75 and surrounding connectors for some time.
Authorities believe distracted driving and unsafe merging behavior contributed to the crash, which remains under investigation. No citations had been issued at the time of this report. TDOT urges all drivers to exercise caution in split-lane ramp areas and avoid sudden maneuvers, especially during peak hours.
Our thoughts are with the injured motorists as they recover from this morning’s I‑75 ramp crash.
