Hamtramck, MI – Wrong-Way Crash on I-75 Near Lafayette Leaves Multiple Injured
Hamtramck, MI (September 4, 2023) – On September 4th, a wrong-way collision on I-75 caused several injuries and significant disruptions.
State police received multiple distress calls about a wrong-way driver on the southbound lanes of I-375 near Lafayette. The wrong-way driver collided with several vehicles, prompting an urgent response from troopers.
The errant driver continued northbound on I-375 and then onto the southbound lanes of I-75, ultimately crashing into a Ford passenger car near Caniff Street. The impact also resulted in collisions with several other vehicles before the vehicle came to a halt.
State police reported several non-life-threatening injuries resulting from both crashes. Notably, the driver of the Ford vehicle sustained serious injuries and was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for critical medical attention.
The at-fault driver, identified as a 43-year-old woman from Detroit, also suffered serious injuries and was admitted to the hospital in a very critical condition. It was revealed that the driver had a suspended license, adding to the gravity of the situation.
State police are in the process of obtaining a search warrant to investigate whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident. The investigation is ongoing and awaits review by the prosecutor’s office.
