Hernando Co., FL – Semi-Truck Crash on I-75/MM 296 Injures Two
Hernando County, FL (November 24, 2024) – A collision involving a semi-truck and a parked vehicle on I-75 left a woman and a child injured on Saturday afternoon, November 24. The accident occurred near mile marker 296, prompting a swift response from Hernando County Fire Rescue and the Florida Highway Patrol. Authorities reported that a Freightliner semi-truck, driven by a 55-year-old man from Cape Coral, experienced a tire blowout while traveling southbound. The driver attempted to move to the shoulder but struck a stationary Hyundai Elantra parked there. The Elantra, carrying a 33-year-old Clermont woman and a young boy, spun into a grassy area due to the force of the impact. Emergency responders provided immediate assistance at the scene. One of the occupants of the Hyundai was airlifted to a nearby hospital, while the other was transported by ambulance. Their current conditions have not been disclosed, and the extent of their injuries remains under investigation. Investigations by the Florida Highway Patrol are ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
