Laurel County, KY – Crash on I-75 Near London Claims Life, Several Injured
Laurel County, KY (October 20, 2023) – In the early morning hours of October 20th, a serious accident occurred on I-75 in Laurel County, Kentucky, resulting in the tragic loss of a 24-year-old man’s life and injuries to several others.
According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred around 8 miles south of London, along the southbound lanes of the interstate, at around 1:45 a.m.
Preliminary investigations conducted by deputies indicate that a Ford SUV, traveling in the far left passing lane, lost control due to heavy rainfall overnight, causing it to hydroplane on the wet road surface. The SUV subsequently collided with the concrete median divider and continued sliding, leading to a collision with a Subaru also in the passing lane.
Regrettably, a 24-year-old passenger in the Subaru, identified as Bryan James Lowman from South Carolina, lost his life in this tragic incident. It was revealed that Lowman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 58-year-old driver of the Subaru sustained injuries and was promptly transported to a hospital in London for medical treatment.
Furthermore, the 41-year-old driver and a 67-year-old passenger in the SUV, both from Michigan, also sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital in Corbin for necessary medical care.
Following the accident, authorities closed the southbound side of the interstate in Laurel County for approximately three hours to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.
Our hearts go out to the victims and their families affected by this tragic event. We extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones of Bryan James Lowman and wish for the swift recovery of those who were injured.
