Lee Co., FL – Fire Battalion Chief Critically Injured in Crash on I-75 Near MM 116
Lee County, FL (September 16, 2025) – A Bonita Springs Fire battalion chief was critically injured early Sunday morning, September 14, on Interstate 75 near mile marker 116.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 12:33 a.m. as the firefighter was assisting with traffic control from a separate crash in the southbound lanes. While standing on the inside shoulder in a reflective vest, he was struck by an SUV that veered onto the shoulder to avoid slowed traffic.
The firefighter suffered critical injuries and was transported to Gulf Coast Hospital. Bonita Springs Fire Control & Rescue District later reported that he is now in stable condition.
