Lee Co, FL – Wrong-Way Crash on I-75/MM 139 Claims Life, Injures Elderly Driver
Lee County, FL (September 29, 2024) – A fatal wrong-way collision on northbound I-75 near mile marker 139 claimed the life of a 56-year-old woman and left an 86-year-old man injured on Sunday night.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that the elderly man was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-75 at approximately 8:30 p.m. when his vehicle collided head-on with the woman’s car. She suffered critical injuries in the crash and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The elderly driver sustained minor injuries and was also taken to a local hospital for treatment. Both vehicles were heavily damaged, and there were no passengers in either car. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by FHP.
