Lee County, FL (August 4, 2023) – Three Cape Coral residents were seriously injured in an early morning two-vehicle crash on I-75, which took place on August 4th.

The accident occurred at around 1:20 a.m. when a red Hyundai SUV, driven by a 75-year-old woman from Cape Coral, was traveling north on I-75 in the outside lane, north of Mile Marker 120, in Lee County. According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a white Honda Accord, driven by a 31-year-old man from Fort Myers, was also headed north in the center lane of I-75 when the driver attempted to change lanes and collided with the rear of the Hyundai.

As a result of the impact, the Hyundai veered off the roadway, entered the grass shoulder, and overturned multiple times. The accident report indicates that the SUV’s occupants, including the driver, a 46-year-old woman, and a 10-year-old girl, all from Cape Coral, were transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center with serious injuries.

The driver of the Honda Accord, later identified as Dwayne Medina, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently arrested by the FHP for driving impaired in a crash resulting in injuries.

The authorities are currently investigating the crash to determine further details and the cause of the accident.
