Luna Pier, MI – Woman Killed on I-75 After Attempting to Flee Vehicle

Luna Pier, MI (March 31, 2025) – A tragic incident on Interstate 75 near Luna Pier Road resulted in the death of a woman who was struck by a passing vehicle while attempting to flee her car under unclear circumstances.

According to Michigan State Police, the accident occurred just before 8:30 p.m. A U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent had stopped to check on a stranded vehicle along the highway. After gathering information from the woman inside, the agent returned to his patrol car. Moments later, a gunshot was heard, and a man was seen fleeing the area. The woman then exited her vehicle and attempted to run across the highway when she was hit by an oncoming car.

Emergency medical personnel arrived swiftly, but she was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries. Authorities are actively searching for the unidentified man who fled the scene. It remains unclear whether he had any direct involvement in the gunshot incident. The southbound lanes of I-75 were shut down for several hours as investigators processed the scene, reopening just before 6 a.m. The Michigan State Police urge anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
