Marietta, GA – Tragic Fatality and Serious Injury in I-75 Accident Near Delk Road

Marietta, GA – (September 23, 2023) – On September 23rd, a serious traffic incident occurred on I-75 near Delk Road in Marietta, Georgia. A Good Samaritan’s attempt to assist a stranded driver turned fatal when a passing vehicle struck and killed them. This heartbreaking event claimed one life and left another person with severe injuries.

Around 12:45 a.m., a Kia Sedona traveling southbound on I-75 near Delk Road lost control, setting off a series of crashes. The Sedona veered across all lanes, eventually crashing into the median barrier. It then crossed all lanes again before colliding with the right-hand guardrail. Finally, it came to a halt, partially blocking the far right-hand lane of I-75 south. This vulnerable position exposed it to further collisions by passing vehicles, as reported by Marietta Police later.

As compassionate bystanders rushed to aid the Sedona’s driver following the initial crash, tragedy struck once more. A Dodge Challenger, in the far-right lane, lost control and struck two pedestrians near the Sedona. This secondary collision had dire consequences.

One pedestrian was taken to Grady Hospital with severe injuries, while the other, 38-year-old Sarah Bolt from Monroe, Georgia, was transported to Grady with life-threatening injuries. Regrettably, Sarah Bolt later succumbed to her injuries, adding to the sorrow of this accident.

The Sedona’s driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and the Challenger’s driver emerged unscathed. Authorities have not disclosed whether pending charges will be filed against the Challenger’s driver, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident while traveling on I-75 near Delk Road during the crash to provide information or contact Marietta Police Investigator P. Wishon at 770-794-5384.

Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this challenging period.
