Marion County, FL – Fatal Collision on I-75 at MM 372 Claims One Life and Leaves Another Seriously Injured

Marion County, FL (September 10, 2023) – A fatal accident occurred on Saturday afternoon, September 9th near the Marion and Alachua county line on I-75, resulting in the loss of one life and causing serious injuries to another individual.

The Florida Highway Patrol swiftly responded to the incident, which forced the closure of I-75.

The accident occurred at around 4:47 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75, near mile marker 372, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash involved a van driven by a 57-year-old woman from Jacksonville, traveling southbound on Interstate 75 in the center lane, approaching mile marker 372. Simultaneously, a heavy-duty truck, operated by a 36-year-old man from Tampa and loaded with vehicles, was also heading southbound on I-75, in the right outside lane.

According to the crash report, as the truck approached, the van attempted to change lanes from the middle lane to the right outside lane, leading to a devastating collision. The right side of the van collided with the left front of the truck, causing both vehicles to spin out of control and veer off the road. Tragically, they both overturned and crashed into several trees.

Regrettably, the driver of the van succumbed to their injuries at the accident scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the truck sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Due to the collision, the right southbound lanes in the vicinity of the accident scene remained blocked, causing significant traffic disruptions, as reported by FL 511.
