Miami, FL – Fatal Crash Involving Pedestrians on I-75 Near MM 72
Miami, FL (November 19, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred late Tuesday morning, November 19, on the northbound lanes of I-75, in Collier County.
The crash, which occurred near mile marker 72 shortly after 11:00 a.m., involved a 2012 silver Chrysler Town and Country van and two pedestrians, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). Authorities report that the driver, 37-year-old Darian Camacho from Miami, fell asleep at the wheel. This caused his vehicle to drift onto the inside shoulder, where it hit several cable barrier supports before crashing into a construction sign lodged in the front of the van.
Tragically, the impact fatally struck a 39-year-old male pedestrian, whose body was thrown into the northbound inside lane. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another pedestrian suffered non-life-threatening injuries from debris and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Camacho was arrested and faces multiple charges, including a felony for driving without a license resulting in death, and a misdemeanor for using an unassigned license plate. The FHP is still investigating the crash.
Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones during this difficult time, and we extend our best wishes for a full recovery to the injured pedestrian.
