Royal Oak, MI – Wrong-Way Driver Causes Fatal Crash on I-75 near 11 Mile Rd

Royal Oak, MI (July 28, 2024) – A tragic wrong-way crash on I-75 in Royal Oak resulted in four fatalities early Sunday morning, July 28th. Around 2:50 a.m., a black Volkswagen traveling north in the southbound lanes collided with a Dodge Caravan near 11 Mile Road. Upon arrival, Royal Oak police officers found the Volkswagen engulfed in flames and multiple victims at the scene. The driver of the Volkswagen was pronounced dead on site. Inside the Dodge Caravan, three individuals were also pronounced dead, while a fourth passenger was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The Michigan State Police closed the freeway for six hours to thoroughly investigate and clear the debris. They continue to process evidence, identify the victims, and notify their families.
