Sarasota, FL – Three Seriously Hurt in Crash on I-75 Near SR 72

Sarasota, FL (January 27, 2025) – A serious multi-vehicle crash occurred on Monday morning, January 27, on Interstate 75 near the State Road 72 Exit at Mile Marker 203. The accident, which took place around 5:36 a.m., left three people with serious injuries. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash involved three vehicles. The semi drifted into the right lane, colliding with the Honda, which a 41-year-old man from North Port drove. The semi then veered left, striking the Kia and forcing it off the roadway into a wooded median. The semi overcorrected, causing its trailer to rotate counterclockwise and overturn, spilling gravel across all three northbound lanes.

The semi’s driver, a 56-year-old Miami man, and his 41-year-old male passenger from Naples sustained serious injuries. The Kia’s driver, a 37-year-old woman from Naples, was also seriously injured. The Honda driver escaped with non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders, including Sarasota County Fire Department personnel, provided on-site medical assistance before transporting the injured to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for further treatment. The FHP is investigating the cause of the crash.
