Shelby County, OH (September 4, 2024) – A deadly multi-vehicle collision involving three commercial trucks occurred on I-75, just south of the Botkins Road exit, on the afternoon of September 4th.
The crash left one person dead and another injured. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident took place around 3 p.m. when a 2015 International tractor-trailer driven by Jaquan Simon, 27, was struck from behind by a 2020 Freightliner, driven by Jeffrey Sherrick, 65. Moments later, a 2023 Volvo driven by Iurie Chetrusca, 43, collided with the Freightliner, causing both vehicles to catch fire. Chetrusca tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Sherrick was rushed to Saint Rita’s Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Simon escaped without injury. The crash led to significant traffic delays as authorities worked to extinguish the fire and clear the wreckage. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the cause of the crash.
Our hearts go out to the family of Chetrusca, and we wish Sherrick a quick recovery.
