Sumter Co., FL – Fatal Motorcycle Crash on I-75 Near MM 306

Sumter County, FL (August 5, 2025) – An 84-year-old man from Carlisle, Ohio, tragically lost his life, and his 80-year-old female passenger from Eaton, Ohio, was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash on Sunday, August 3. The incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. on southbound I-75 near mile marker 306.

The man was operating a Honda Gold Wing motorcycle when he exited the highway to enter a rest area. Unfortunately, he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, causing the motorcycle to veer off the road and into a drainage retention area. The motorcycle struck an embankment, resulting in the man’s fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, the 80-year-old woman, was seriously injured and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
