Tampa, FL – Fatal Head-On Collision on I-75 Exit Ramp Claims Life of Tampa Man

Tampa, FL (July 14, 2023) – A tragic accident took place on Friday morning, July 14th, in Tampa, resulting in the death of a 36-year-old man. The incident occurred when one of the involved parties drove in the wrong direction and collided head-on with another vehicle on an exit ramp of Interstate 75, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The collision involved a 49-year-old Riverview man, who sustained serious injuries in the crash. The unfortunate event unfolded just before 10 a.m. on the exit ramp leading to State Road 574.

Reports from troopers indicate that the Riverview man was traveling south on I-75 and had taken the exit at SR-574, while the Tampa man entered the same exit ramp but in the wrong direction, heading north.

The two vehicles collided in a devastating head-on impact, resulting in the Tampa man’s car catching fire and becoming partially burned. Swiftly responding to the scene, a Hazardous Incidents Team from Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, who happened to be en route to a gas leak, encountered the crash. They used a fire extinguisher on the burning vehicle and successfully rescued the trapped man. Subsequently, a fire truck arrived to extinguish the flames.

Authorities have chosen not to release the identities of the drivers involved in the accident at this time as the investigations progress.
