Weston, FL – Fatal Crash Involving SUV and Scooter on I-75 Claims One Life and Leaves Another Critically Injured

Weston, FL (July 29, 2023) – A slow-moving scooter was involved in a fatal collision with an SUV, resulting in one person losing their life and another suffering critical injuries. The accident occurred around 3 p.m. on Friday, July 28th, west of the I-75 and Interstate 595 interchange.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident involved a 49CC scooter carrying two individuals, traveling at a slow rate of speed in the center lane, approaching Indian Trace. Meanwhile, a 36-year-old man was driving a Nissan Rogue SUV, approaching the scooter from behind. The SUV’s driver was unable to avoid the collision with the scooter and crashed into its rear, causing the scooter to overturn onto its right side and slide into the center lane.

As a result of the collision, both the driver and passenger on the scooter were thrown off the vehicle. Tragically, one of the riders was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim, in critical condition, was airlifted by helicopter to Broward Health Hospital.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that neither of the scooter riders was wearing helmets, and the driver of the SUV showed no signs of impairment.
