Collier Co., FL – Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-75 SB at MM 96
Collier County, FL (December 13, 2025) – A deadly multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 in Collier County left one person dead and three others injured on December 12, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The collision occurred southbound on I-75 at mile marker 96 along Alligator Alley shortly after 12:11 a.m.
Troopers said three commercial semi-trucks and four passenger vehicles were traveling south when visibility suddenly dropped due to heavy smoke in the area. Investigators linked the smoke to a prescribed burn conducted earlier in the week at Picayune Strand State Forest. A semi-truck driven by a 41-year-old man from Miami stopped in a travel lane due to low visibility.
A second semi-truck, driven by a 44-year-old man from Lakeland, struck the stopped truck from behind. The impact triggered a chain reaction involving multiple vehicles, including a third semi-truck and several passenger vehicles. A 52-year-old man driving a Chevrolet pickup truck was killed in the crash.
Two passengers in that pickup truck, a 38-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy, suffered serious injuries. Paramedics transported them to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of an Audi also sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. Several other drivers were involved but were not injured.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the victim and our thoughts to those injured during recovery. Troopers continue investigating the crash and the role visibility played in these events.
