Pedestrian Crashes on I-75 in Riverview

Pedestrian accidents on major highways, such as I-75, are rare but often fatal when they do occur. With vehicles travelling at high speeds, drivers have very little time to react if someone enters the roadway. In Riverview and across Hillsborough County, these types of crashes highlight the dangers that arise when motorists are stranded on busy interstates.

Florida has one of the highest pedestrian fatality rates in the nation, and crashes on interstates account for some of the most severe cases. When a car becomes disabled, drivers and passengers may feel they have no choice but to exit their vehicle. Unfortunately, standing near or stepping into active lanes of traffic is extremely dangerous. Even with headlights and hazard lights, visibility is limited at night, significantly increasing the risk of tragedy.

For families who lose a loved one in such accidents, the aftermath can be overwhelming. Beyond the deep emotional toll, they may face funeral expenses, lost income, and long-term financial hardship. In cases where negligence plays a role, such as unsafe driving, speeding, or failure to maintain proper lookout, surviving relatives may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim under Florida law. Compensation can help cover expenses and offer support during a challenging and devastating time.

To reduce risks, experts recommend staying inside the vehicle whenever possible, using hazard lights, and calling roadside assistance immediately if a breakdown occurs. Motorists should avoid walking into traffic lanes unless directed to do so by authorities.
